The morning loading of the camels was quite a ritual, taking about 4 hours! First they had to find the camels who had wandered, cook breakfast, break their own camp, then size up the loads. Each driver would take the same duffels, water jugs, flour sacks or egg crates as the previous day, then bundle several pieces together for each side of the camel. Here he wrapped his hand-woven ropes around three duffels, then cinched them tight with the force of his feet. Any unprotected toiletries were a disaster that night!
